The training courses included:
Advanced Echocardiography – Delivered by Pedro Esteve, Director of Diagnostics and a specialist in cardiology, imaging and interventional cardiology, the training took place at Hospital de Referencia Diagnosfera, in San Sebastián de los Reyes, Madrid, on 1st June. Attendees learnt the fundamentals of advanced echocardiography, along with how to diagnose animals with cardiac pathology.
How to identify a seizure when epilepsy is not the answer – This conference was delivered by Daniel Sánchez-Masián, a European specialist in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery, at the Hotel Velada Mérida, in Mérida, near the Bodión Veterinary Hospital on 1st June. The course focused on the most frequent non-epileptic seizures and the different types of epileptic seizures.
Dysplasia and TPLO – This practical course was hosted at Veterios Veterinary Reference Madrid on 6th and 7th June by Felipe De Vincente, Clinical Director of Veterios and a European specialist in traumatology and orthopaedics. The sessions focused on the different implants used in orthopaedics, followed by a session on the medical treatments available for hip dysplasia. The second day included a practical session where participants practiced treating a case of TPLO crucial ligament rupture.
Local anaesthesia guided by Ultrasound – Delivered by Miguel Ángel Cabezas, a specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia, the course took place at Veterios Vetinerary Hospital in Madrid over 8th and 9th June. Miguel took participants through common clinical surgeries, issues related to anaesthesia and analgesia, and ultrasound guided local anathesia.
How to address complicated Unitary Tracy Problems – Esther Sánchez, Director of the Coso Clinic in Zaragoza and Alberto Barneto from Diagnostic Referral centre in Madrid delivered a course on 10th June focused on the management of complex urinary tract problems in animals. The course took place at X in Valencia, and covered topics such as incidents in aetiology, medical treatments for complex cases, surgical techniques, and useful skills for perineal urethrostomy and other feline urethrostomies.
Abdominal radiology and clinical cases – Taught by Racquel Salgüero at Hospital de Veterios in Madrid on 14th June, the conference focused on abdominal radiology and clinical cases using diagnostic imaging. Racquel shared her in-depth experience and knowledge on the sector, using her qualifications from the European College of Diagnostic Imaging and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to inform attendees.
Introduction to Echocardiography – Delivered by Pedro Esteve, Director of Diagnosfera and Head of Cardiology, Imaging and Interventionism, the course took place at Hospital Diagnosfera in Madrid on 15th June. Attendees learnt about the basics of enchocardiography including how to obtain echocardiographic views and assess systolic and diastolic function in animals.
Practical Clinical Training, ACV’s – Attendees learnt a range of important skills related to blood pressure in felines. These included how to take bloody pressure correctly, wound and dressing management and the different types of sutures used in clinical practice.
Participants also had the chance to practice bandaging and sutures. The second day included the practice of fundamental clinical skills such as intubation, orogastric, nasogastric and catheterisation. Attendees also discussed nasal oxygen therapy and other skills important for common clinical procedures. The training was delivered by Erika Conejo, Assistant Coordinator of the HCV at the UAB Emergency and Intensive Care Services, who is certified by The Academy of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Technicians and Nurses (AVECCTN).
IRIS 2023 Refresher Conference – The course was delivered on 21st June by Belén Montoya, an expert in feline medicine and held at Veterios, Hospital of Reference in Madrid. The IRIS 2023 Refresher Course provided participants with information on latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease and arterial hypertension in cats, which will enable them to provide high quality care to their feline patients.
All the courses were very well received with attendees praising the quality of the teaching , the variety of the speakers and the theoretical and practical content of the courses.
