UNAVETS Group gives a basic echocardiology workshop in Diagnosfera

Last 31st of March, the UNAVETS Group started its 2022 training days with a workshop on basic eco-cardiology open to both the clinical teams of UNAVETS centres and other interested veterinary centres.

The workshop took place in San Sebastián de los Reyes, in the training room of Diagnosfera, a reference centre in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, interventional medicine, ophthalmology, feline medicine and oncology belonging to UNAVETS, and was sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim.

The speaker was its clinical director, Pedro Esteve, accredited in AVEPA in the speciality of Cardiology, ESAVS Certificate in Cardiology and member of the American and European societies of cardiology and diagnostic imaging.

The theoretical-practical workshop programme covered the fundamentals and applications of echocardiography and the advanced non-invasive Doppler technique. This was followed by the acquisition of echocardiographic views, both parasternal and subcostal views, and the assessment of systolic and diastolic function. Finally, the echocardiographic diagnosis and evaluation of the most common cardiac diseases in dogs: MVD, CMD, pulmonary hypertension and pericardial disease was studied with the participation of patients with cardiac pathology.

The workshop was of great interest to all attendees and a second, more advanced workshop, will be held at a later date to complement the knowledge acquired in the first one.

We would like to thank Fuji Film for their willingness to make their diagnostic equipment available and Boehringer Ingelheim for their support to this training activity.
